The Nassau County Auxiliary Police, although a part of the Nassau County Police Department, does not receive any funding from Nassau County or New York Sate. The Nassau County Police Department provides the Auxiliary Police with uniforms, bulletproof vests, portable radios and gasoline, however other crucial equipment and consumables are not provided. The Auxiliary Police is responsible for purchasing:
- Vehicles
- Police Tape
- Road Flares
- Traffic Cones
- Flashlights
- Handcuffs
- Other Duty Equipment
The Auxiliary Police relies entirely on monetary donations from businesses and citizens within the county in order to be able to purchase these items! These items allow Auxiliary Police Officers to be safer, more efficient, and better suited to respond to emergencies.
